A modern retreat in the mountains of Norway

It is a modern construction, shelter, designed to provide the safety and warmth of a normal home.

It is not the classic country house by the beach, nor a traditional chalet in some nearby village. It is a modern construction, a shelter, designed to provide the safety and warmth of a normal home. Despite the cold climate that prevails in the mountains of Norway, the Reiulf Ramstad architecture team was not deterred and designed a unique 130-square-meter shelter. It is located near the village of Geilo, a popular skiing destination in the Hallingdal valley.

The special feature of the construction is the original separation of the rooms, in a way that they stand out from the outside. A common meeting point for users inside the house is the kitchen. The second distinguishing feature is the warm and modern feeling caused by the combination of wood paneling and glass facades. It may at first glance appear to be a simple wooden structure, but in the northern countries, the thermal insulation of houses is self-evident. According to the commentary of the well-known website Yatzer, the design of the kitchen was done in such a way as to bring the family members together.

Its interior is simple and homogeneous, in light of the color of the wood. Its special design, combined with the mountainous landscape as a backdrop, creates a peaceful and relaxing feeling for the visitor. As the architects themselves claim: The mountain lodge is a continuation of the Norwegian technical tradition, in its type and materials, integrated famously into the environment and its contents. The construction of the house on the slope and its slight elevation from the ground gives the advantage of a wonderful view towards the meadows that stretch across the horizon.

Although a shelter, it is considered a great tribute to the country house, the Split Mountain View Lodge by Reiulf Ramstad Architects invites the wild landscape to enter the interior of the residence, thus reinforcing the Norwegians' love of combining the comfort of the sofa with nature.
